Good design is often very simple. This can be especially true when it comes to floral arrangements. Try this easy arrangement using three types of flowers and differently sized fishbowl vases that fit to make a stable stack. (Similar vases are available at florists and homeware stores.)

* For the base, arrange kale flowers on top of each other in a 35cm glass bowl. Kale flowers work well because of their weighty stems.

* Wind tulips around the inside of a 25cm bowl; bendy stems are essential, so you could also use calla lilies or anthuriums.

* In a 15cm vase, place one lovely bloom; we’ve used a perfect Casablanca lily.

This arrangement should last about a week, especially if you use a minimum of water (the tulip blooms don’t like being submerged) and top it up every other day or so. A touch of household bleach will help keep the water clear.
