A fine romance

Make a stunning special-occasion centrepiece using long-stemmed flowers and foliage in muted shades of green and blue. We combined delphinium belladonna, viburnum (snowball), lambs’ ears, ruscus and astilbe in a loose but classical arrangement. Start with a sturdy urn and floral foam that’s been soaked in water for at least 30 minutes. Beginning with the foliage, ring the edge of the container and then work forward towards the centre. Fill gaps in the foliage with the flowers. To keep the arrangement fresh, change the water every two days.

Urn from good floral supply shops or $85 from Vida Flores, (09) 523 5454. Table and chair stylist’s own.
